Excellent review of the Target novel Tim & i completely agree with your review that some of the changes worked well while others didn’t, i didn’t like that line “i can’t stand the fellow” because it loses the Doctor/Master dynamic, you get the sense especially in Sea Devils when the Doctor visits him in prison he wishes his old friend could change his ways & the Tenth Doctor broke. The Autons are a primitive android-like race of artificial beings found in the British sci-fi series Doctor Who and are one of the many creations of the Nestene Consciousness. Autons are, simply put, human-sized dummies made of plastic, although they are not the only creations of the Nestene Consciousness they are one of the most recurring and : None.

Doctor Who, Season 8 The Master, a renegade Time Lord, comes to Earth and breaks into a museum where he steals a Nestene energy globe that was salvaged from their previous invasion attempt. On iPlayer.   The plastic daffodil tries to claim its first victim, Jo Grant.

The best Time Lord to have ever graced the show. One year after the events of Spearhead From Space, the Doctor has to deal with the Autons again, because a surviving Nestene energy unit that the Brigadier loaned to a museum has been stolen by his arch-enemy, the Master/5.
